The fourth of July has always been one of my favorite holidays growing up. When I was a kid, my family and I would head over to my dad’s best friends house and celebrate by sharing stories, eating barbeque, riding in the back of a huge black pickup truck to go watch the annual parade in Wakefield, MA. My sisters and I would hangout with my Dad’s friends’ daughters and we’d go swimming, eat popsicles, watch fire works, and just really enjoy summer to the fullest. We’d stay up all night long and just enjoy each other’s company.
As the years went on and I grew older, I started to spend the fourth of July with my friends. Last year, I actually attended a wedding in New York and was taken aback by how stunning the fireworks looked across the Hudson River. What a sight! This year, I’ll be spending the Fourth with my boyfriend Marc and his family up at Lake Winnipesauke in New Hampshire. I’m not sure why the fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays, but I think it has something to do with the fact that everybody is together and celebrating without any added pressures of gift-giving like some holidays have surrounding them. The fourth of July is a time to celebrate our beautiful country and how far we have come to create such a wonderful and free nation where we are so blessed to be able to really become and do anything we can think and dream of! We have such a privilege to be able to work and live in an economy where we can push ourselves to better our lives and the lives of those around us without ‘big brother’ stifling our freedoms (for now – remember that come November!!).
We live in a country where hard work really does pay off and where we can climb the economic ladder if we are bold enough to think BIG and push ourselves. I pray to God that my children will one day still be able to enjoy that same privilege of an open and competitive market and not have to be subjected to anything but!
God Bless America & Happy Birthday to the USA!
Anyways, here are some of my fourth of July inspired finds to spruce up your weekend! What are you planning on doing this year?
