If you read my post about my approach to fitness, then you’ll know that going through high school, I was a pretty big gym buff. I enjoyed weight lifting, cardio, group classes, you name it! It was the real starting point of my fitness friendly lifestyle. You’ll also have read that I went through a period of time where I stopped going to the gym regularly. Here, I just wanted to write a little bit about that, for those of you who enjoy fitness, but want other alternatives to joining a gym.
I’m currently in the process of looking at new gyms myself actually and I am aware of all the different details and planning that goes into picking a gym. For the most part, one would assume joining a gym to be a simple process, but when things like contracts, monthly dues, and additional fees come into play, joining a gym might be a bit harder than you’d think. Right now, I’m in a place where I hope to be doing a lot more traveling, and so joining one gym in a set location might not be the best option for me. So, recently, I have been using an app called Sworkit to do my exercises the go, wherever I am. No gym required. Don’t get me wrong, the gym is great! I really do intend to get back to a new gym once things settle down a bit, but at the moment, I’m ‘Sworking’ out (if thats a phrase).
Cool Workout Gear
The app lets you customize a workout or pick various options such as strength, cardio and ‘fit-in-5’ ( a five minute workout that actually kicks your butt- not kidding either). The app will then begin your workout by showing a 5-30 second animation of a particular exercise (for example, crunches) to teach you how to workout in the correct form, and then the app counts down and lets you know when it is time to switch to the next exercise. What I like in particular is that the app allows for a rest between exercises – giving you a chance to catch your breath in between workouts! You can also play music while you workout, pause a workout, and when you forget to workout, the app sets a reminder in your phone letting you know that you have a scheduled work out.
